"Zen masters say you cannot see

your reflection in running water,

only in still water."

-- Elizabeth Gilbert

Kielnhofer, Manfred (1967-)Water reflection
The Austrian photographer Manfred Kielnhofer develops a new sort of act photographs. Therefore he builds a water plate in his studio, where he can take photos of models sitting or lying likely on a mirror. Kielnhofer is working with the camera like a sculptor. With the human body shapes he creates sculptures in the endless universum.

“This first full Moon of 2012 highlights the opposition between the Sun in Capricorn and the Moon in Cancer, and speaks to the nurturing, creating and protecting aspects of life and society.   It brings up the archetypal powers of mother and father, the issues of nurturing and protecting, and impacts our emotional body as well as our social body. The energies of family and state begin our new year, the structures that bind us together….”

“This Cancer full Moon asks us to look at what is happening to our world and nurture a new way of being in ourselves and in our world.    To do that, we have to discern when to literally help, when to offer advice, when to stand silent and be a witness to new ideas and growth without entangling ourselves where we are not needed.   A good mother gives what is necessary for her child’s growth and consciousness, and sometimes this entails “not giving’ them what they think they need.  ”“When your own mother, or your inner mother, cannot give you the love you deserve and need, turn to the Goddess, for she is the Great Mother of us all.   And don’t forget to be grateful for her love.”

“…This is the promise of the Cancer full Moon — to nurture the new Light being born within you and to learn how to bring it into the world for our communal benefit later this year.”

Animal Spirits 12/23/2011

For this series titled “Bêtes de mode” (Fashion Animals) by HELMO, blue portraits and red animal portraits are superimposed then and displayed in the windows of the Lafayette Galleries. A system of colored gels colored blue and red on the panes makes it possible to see the portrait mode sometimes, and sometimes the animal portrait.

“During a Full Moon, the Sun and Moon are in opposition, also called the Full Phase, indicating the linking of soul to spirit and awareness of purpose gained through relationship with another. A lunar eclipse is a supercharged Full Moon. The blocking of the Moon’s reflection of the Sun’s light by the Earth suggests that our material viewpoint stands in the way of our “seeing the light”. It serves as a reminder that we need to realize how we are held in the dark by virtue of our perspective.”
